A little poker last couple days for the first time in a while - finally deleted that stupid time waster of a game, Runescape. Now I can waste my time doing something that might actually get me something. Played a couple of freerolls last night, made it into the top 10 % of the field in the larger field (10000 players), and busted out with second best two pair on the flop of my last hand. Felt good to play a little again.
Got a couple of fun packages in the mail today - got my free wine from Mankas Hills Vineyard (check it out, bloggers - they're sending out a free bottle in an internet campaign). I like the idea, and I really like the concept as they expouse it:
"The web is becoming a much more personal space, and the rules are changing. Quality is being spread by word of mouth, blog posts, wikis and aposdcasts rather than by advertsing campaigns. Users are more inclined to listen to "everyday experts" via their commentary online, rather than detached newspaper articles meant for the masses. If we look back in history, this was the way things worked, before TV, before the radio, before magazines. People would hear of all the good (and the bad) through their community and quality would spread with no biasing by media or advertising. This trend is returning but at a global scale with online communities. It is a chance for the small guys with limited resources who have good products to be successful in such a myriad of larger corporations."
I also got a package from the good Dr. Pauly , who sent me 3 discs of two shows by Galactic! I just asked him for some recommendations of where to start, and he generously offered to send me some discs. Any time you're in the Twin Cities, Pauly, the drinks are on me. He even included a hand written track listing - that's going the extra mile.
